COLLECTING PERSONAL INFORMATION THROUGH OUR DONATE SERVICE:
When you make a donation using the DONATE button, CASA of Los Angeles collects a variety of personal information about you in order to properly process your donation. This personal information may include: name, address, phone, email address, your credit card information, “in honor of ” or “in memory of” information, and donation amount. In addition, your information is entered into the organization’s database of supporters. We are committed to not share your personal information without your knowledge or permission. It is unlikely that CASA of Los Angeles will need to contact you but we reserve the right in the event that we need to verify your personal information for the purposes of completing your donation transaction or providing support for your donation transaction. If you contact us by email or phone, we may ask you to verify your personal information so that we may respond to your inquiry. When making a donation to CASA of Los Angeles, donors are asked to check a box to “receive email updates” from that CASA. CASA of Los Angeles will obtain that information and may choose to send email updates to the donor. We collect credit card information from donors so that we can process donations. We maintain this information on our secure servers for our internal processes only. We also use a credit card processing company to process donations. This company does not retain, share, store or use personally identifiable information for any secondary purposes.
PROTECTING PERSONAL INFORMATION:
CASA of Los Angeles takes every precaution to protect donor information. When donors submit sensitive information via our web site, their information is protected both online and off-line. When a form asks donors to enter sensitive information (such as credit card number or address), the information is encrypted and is protected with the best encryption software in the industry – SSL. While on a secure page, such as a donation form, the lock icon on the bottom of Web browsers such as Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer becomes locked to indicate that encryption is in use. While we use SSL encryption to protect sensitive information online, we also do everything in our power to protect donor information off-line. All of our donor information, not just the sensitive information mentioned above, is restricted in our offices. Only employees who need the information to perform a specific job (e.g. our customer service team) are granted access to personally identifiable information. All employees are kept up-to-date on our security and privacy practices.
WHAT PERSONAL INFORMATION DO WE COLLECT?
CASA of Los Angeles supports and promotes court-appointed volunteer advocacy for abused and neglected children so that they can thrive in safe, permanent homes. In order to further this mission, CASA of Los Angeles may collect certain information from you through the Site, including personal information. We consider “personal information” to be any information that can be used to identify or contact you, such as your name, address, phone number and email address.
Information on this Site is collected both actively (information you voluntarily submit to us) and passively (information automatically gathered from your computer).
ACTIVE COLLECTION: At several places on our Site, we collect certain information you voluntarily provide to us which may contain personally identifiable information. For example, if you make a donation, request further information, fill out a form or register for an event through the Site, we may collect your name, address, phone number and email address. You may also provide us with credit card information to make donations to CASA of Los Angeles. However, credit card information is only used to process the transaction. In addition, from time to time our Site may request information as part of surveys or contests or in connection with grant applications and reporting. If you send us an email request, we may store that information as well.
Our software automatically collects certain information from your computer (such as your Internet address and browser type) using two methods: (1) “cookies” and (2) log files.
2. Log Files. We may use IP addresses to analyze trends, administer the Site, track users’ movement, and gather broad demographic information for aggregate use. IP addresses are not linked to personally identifiable information.
HOW DO WE USE THE PERSONAL INFORMATION WE COLLECT?
Personal information that you provide CASA of Los Angeles (such as a personal email address) may be used by CASA of Los Angeles in the following ways:
to contact you about your use of the Site or about our programs, services,
products, activities or special events;
to advocate for children and otherwise further our mission;
to respond to your comments or requests;
to request feedback and to enable us to develop and improve the Site and our
products and services;
for internal and marketing, promotional, informational and fundraising purposes;
and for the specific purpose for which the information was provided.
For example, we may send registered volunteers or visitors a welcoming email, and volunteers and donors may occasionally receive newsletters or information on our programs, services, products, fundraising campaigns, or special events. WHAT PERSONAL INFORMATION DO WE SHARE WITH THIRD PARTIES?
We may disclose personal information you provide to independent contractors, volunteers, agencies, service providers and consultants who are engaged by or working with CASA of Los Angeles and who need access to such information to carry out their programs or services. For example, we may use credit card processing companies to process payments. We may partner with other agencies or organizations to provide specific programs or services and will share information with them in order to facilitate their provision of such programs or services. We may also disclose personal information we have collected if we are required to do so by law or if, in our good faith judgment, such action is reasonably necessary to comply with legal process, to respond to any claims, or to protect the rights of CASA of Los Angeles, its constituents and the public.
WHAT STEPS DO WE TAKE TO PROTECT YOUR INFORMATION ONLINE?
We use reasonable precautions to protect user information online. For example, our employees’ computers are password protected, and we provide regular education to our employees regarding our security and privacy practices. When we collect credit card information, we use a secure server with encryption software that makes unauthorized access more difficult. However, you should be aware that, as with all online actions, third parties might unlawfully intercept transmissions of personal information or misuse your personal information collected from the Site.
